Our
professional guiding services in the Queen Charlotte Islands consist
of licensed and expert guides capable of bringing you to the private
sacred abandoned Haida villages for sightseeing tours. Only Haidas
are authorized to escort people through these First Nations reservations.
Do not miss these unique experiences. The breathtaking sights in the
vicinity of these ancient villages is unsurpassed. You will definitely
want to take photographs and, perhaps, some videos. We will take a
boat trip with a vessel captained by one of these licensed Haidas.
On the way we will be provided an introduction to the significance
of these prehistorical villages to the rebirth of Haida culture. You
will find out that these villages are important because of the remaining
totem poles and artifacts representing art forms as practiced for
over ten thousand years. In addition, the burial grounds holding the
remains of immediate and distant relatives of today's Haidas can be
found adjacent to many of these places. From this point of view, these
villages hold records going further back into antiquity than can be
found in any museum. Sacred petroglyphs (i.e. prehistorical rock carvings)
and caves are also to be found in some of these locations. There will
be high educational content throughout these trips. You will be accompanied
by Ph.D. educated university professors who will bring scientific
knowledge from the academic perspective to further your understanding
of these experiences. In just about every case, the scientific information
confirms that which is manifested by Haida history, oral tradition
and culture. There will be lectures about the unique geology and landforms
on which these villages are located.
While
on the boat, on the way to or back from the ancient villages, there
is a high probability of seeing wildlife, sea mammals and sea birds.
In addition, there will likely be many deer along the beaches or in
the immediate vicinity of the villages.
The
sceneries you will experience throughout these journeys will be astonishing.
Sea scapes juxtaposed to mountainous escarpments are like nowhere
else in the world. A study of the geochronology in this area will
show the continental and Pacific plates as well as the various faults
that have all been shaping these islands for hundreds of thousands
of years. Tree species such as the majestic Sitka spruce, beautiful
Western Hemlocks and the hardy western red cedars will be observable
all along the way. Some of the highest energy coasts and nutritionally
richest areas in the world exist in these islands.
